HS57 — Digital Hybrid Stepper Servo Driver
The Apexwell HS57 is a digital hybrid stepper servo driver with serial debugging and MODBUS-RTU communication. Based on 32-bit DSP control technology, it combines the advantages of open-loop stepper systems and servo control to improve motion performance, reduce motor heating and low-speed vibration, and provide fast start-stop response with low vibration during stopping.
The HS57 supports 20–50VDC power input, up to 200kHz pulse response frequency, and microstep settings from 200 to 40,000. Parameters such as current, microstep resolution, and operating mode can be configured through the PC communication interface.

Hybrid Stepper Servo Control
The HS57 uses a servo-style control principle while retaining compatibility with stepper motor control. This design is intended to reduce the risk of lost steps associated with conventional open-loop stepper systems while improving low-speed vibration and motor heating characteristics.
The driver is designed for fast start-stop operation and low-vibration stopping, while maintaining a compact form factor.
High-Resolution Microstep Control
The HS57 provides a wide microstep setting range from 200 to 40,000. Its pulse response frequency can reach 200kHz, providing flexible motion control for applications requiring higher pulse input frequency and finer motion resolution.
Control Signal Interface
The HS57 provides differential control signal inputs for pulse, direction, and enable functions.
PLS: Pulse input
DIR: Direction input
ENA: Enable input
The PLS input supports +5V to +24V signals, with the rising-edge control specification defined in the source documentation. The pulse width should be greater than 2μs for reliable response. The DIR input supports +5V to +24V signals, while the ENA input can enable or disable motor operation.
Position and Alarm Outputs
The HS57 provides PEND and ALM output signals for motion system monitoring.
PEND provides a position-in-place signal when the motor reaches the commanded position.
ALM provides an alarm output when conditions such as overcurrent, overvoltage, undervoltage, or position error occur. Both outputs support a maximum drive current of 50mA according to the source documentation.
Encoder Interface
The HS57 includes an encoder interface with dedicated A-phase and B-phase inputs and a 5V encoder power supply.
PA+ / PA-: Encoder A-phase input
PB+ / PB-: Encoder B-phase input
VCC: Encoder 5V power supply
EGND: Encoder power ground
RS232 Serial Communication
The HS57 provides an RJ12 serial communication interface for PC-based parameter configuration. Through a dedicated serial cable and USB-to-TTL serial conversion interface, users can connect the driver to a PC and configure parameters such as current, microstep resolution, and operating mode.
Protection Functions
The HS57 includes protection functions for common electrical and positioning faults, including:
Overcurrent protection
Overvoltage protection
Undervoltage protection
Position error alarm
These protection functions are designed to support reliable operation and system monitoring.
Typical Applications
The HS57 is suitable for motion control systems using hybrid stepper motors where higher control performance, encoder feedback, and flexible parameter configuration are required.
Typical application areas include:
Industrial automation equipment
CNC and positioning systems
Linear motion equipment
Automated machinery
Precision positioning systems
OEM motion control equipment
