AW86HS Series — NEMA 34 Closed Loop Hybrid Stepper Motor
The AW86HS series is Apexwell's largest closed loop hybrid stepper motor platform, built on a NEMA 34 (86mm) frame with holding torque scaling from 2.7 N·m to 11 N·m across six body lengths. This is the top of our closed loop stepper range — for applications needing more torque than a standard stepper can deliver at any frame size, see our closed loop BLDC gearmotor series instead.

Closed Loop Feedback
Every AW86HS motor integrates a selectable-resolution encoder (500–2000 PPR) as standard. At holding torque up to 11 N·m, this is precisely the frame size where our article on why closed loop stepper motors are replacing traditional steppers applies most directly — heavier loads make an undetected stall far more expensive, in both scrap and downtime, than at smaller NEMA frame sizes.
Typical Applications
With torque up to 11 N·m, the AW86HS series fits heavy-duty CNC and gantry axes, large-format 3D printers, industrial indexing tables, and robotics base joints where NEMA 23 or NEMA 24 don't have sufficient torque and a geared solution adds unwanted backlash.
Why Choose the AW86HS Series
Six body lengths on one NEMA 34 mounting interface give a 4x torque range (2.7–11 N·m) without changing the mechanical footprint. Built-in encoder feedback at this torque level protects against exactly the failure mode — silent step loss under heavy load — that costs the most to diagnose after the fact. Custom shaft length, connector type, and encoder resolution are available on request.
We can customize the electrical parameters of the motor and geometric dimensions such as the motor output shaft size according to customer requirements. Accessories including pulleys, eccentric gearboxes, planetary gearboxes and encoders can also be added.
