AW42HS Series — NEMA 17 Stepper Motor with Hollow Shaft

The AW42HS series is Apexwell's NEMA 17 (42mm) hybrid stepper motor line built around a through-bore hollow shaft, letting cables, optical fibers, pneumatic lines, or a pass-through mechanism run directly through the rotor axis instead of routing around the motor. Across five body lengths from 28mm to 60mm, holding torque scales from 0.13 N·m to 0.75 N·m on the widely-used NEMA 17 footprint, and each model is available in either 4-wire (bipolar) or 6-wire (center-tap) configuration.

Wiring

Unlike Apexwell's smaller hollow-shaft frames (AW20HS/AW28HS/AW35HS/AW39HS), which ship as 4-wire bipolar only, the AW42HS is available in both 4-wire (bipolar) and 6-wire (center-tap) configurations on the same body lengths, so it can drop into either a bipolar or unipolar driver setup without a different motor SKU.

Typical Applications

With a through-bore hollow shaft on the widely-used NEMA 17 footprint, the AW42HS series fits rotary stages needing cable or fiber-optic pass-through, robotic wrist and turret joints, camera and gimbal positioning, small CNC rotary axes, and dispensing or winding equipment where routing cabling around the motor isn't practical.

Why Choose the AW42HS Series

A hollow shaft removes the need for a separate cable pass-through mechanism or slip ring — wiring, fiber, or a secondary shaft can run straight through the motor's rotational axis, simplifying the mechanical design around it. NEMA 17 is the most widely supported stepper frame size in the motion-control ecosystem, and the 4-wire/6-wire choice lets one motor selection match either driver type. Five body lengths let a product line scale holding torque nearly 6x (0.13–0.75 N·m) on the same mounting footprint. Custom shaft bore diameter and connector configurations are available on request.

We can customize the electrical parameters of the motor and geometric dimensions such as the motor output shaft size according to customer requirements. Accessories including pulleys, eccentric gearboxes, planetary gearboxes and encoders can also be added.
