AW86BLW Series — 86mm BLDC Motor with Brake
The AW86BLW series is Apexwell's 86mm-diameter, 48V brushless DC motor line fitted with an integrated holding brake, so the shaft stays locked in position when motor power is removed. Rated output power scales from 220W to 785W across five body lengths, sharing the same 4.0 N·m brake unit as the AW86BLF series but delivering higher output power at comparable body lengths.

The brake holds the motor shaft when de-energized and releases when 24VDC is applied, independent of the motor phase windings — identical brake specifications to the AW86BLF, since both series use the same brake unit. Permanent-magnet brake, spring brake, power-off brake, and power-on brake variants are available as customizations.
Wiring
Each AW86BLW motor exits with a 3-core sheathed power cable for the U/V/W windings and a separate 5-core shielded Hall sensor cable (+5VDC, GND, HU, HV, HW) at a 120° Hall electrical angle for standard 6-step commutation. The brake coil is wired and powered separately.
Typical Applications
With an integrated holding brake and output power up to 785W on an 86mm frame, the AW86BLW series fits heavy industrial vertical-axis drives, large robotics joints that must hold position when power is removed, lift, hoist, and elevator mechanisms, and other applications where more power is needed at a similar body length than the AW86BLF offers.
Why Choose the AW86BLW Brake Motor
A holding brake keeps the shaft locked whenever the motor is de-energized — whether from a planned power-down or an unplanned fault — which a BLDC motor's own detent torque cannot guarantee once current is removed. Five body lengths let a product line scale output power roughly 3.6x (220–785W) while brake spec stays unchanged, and because the brake unit is shared with the AW86BLF, a design can move between the two motor variants without changing brake specifications. Both power-off (fail-safe) and power-on brake logic are available, letting the same motor frame suit different safety requirements. Custom brake torque and connector configurations are available on request.
We can customize the electrical parameters of the motor and geometric dimensions such as the motor output shaft size according to customer requirements. Accessories including pulleys, eccentric gearboxes, planetary gearboxes and encoders can also be added.
